Dropbox Updates its iOS Apps

Dropbox has been my dumping ground for everything that matters lately. Everything from photos, office files, docs and family videos, access Dropbox using a desktop or mobile and share them easypeasy. And today the file storage behemoth announced that it made an important upgrade on its iOS application.

Glad to see these new features:
  • Ability to save uploads directly to existing or new folders.
  • You can now browse photo uploads in chronological order
  • Also a new interface redesign, now overhauled with icons Dropbox looks pretty much streamlined.
Dropbox for iOS is free to download and pretty much compatible with every iDevice.

Apple Versus Samsung: Patent Wars Have Begun

These mobile tech patent wars are almost ridiculous as asking- who invented and reinvented the rectangle?

Apple is bitching Samsung is miming whatever tech and aesthtic they're churning out, stealing designs and user engagement programming in their wares. Samsung tells Apple to shut up that its ideas are modified rehash of what's out there already which Apple absolutely did not first create. Meanwhile, Samsung screams theft at Apple for pilfering a few of its wireless tech and that they should be paid instead.

Both companies pre-date each other, competition maybe head-to-head, but they should stop bitchin' and keep innovating, they can keep the cycle of borrowing and improving ideas from each other. Both companies should grow up and stop psyching each other out.

Microsoft ‘Surface’ Tablet PC

Apparently, Microsoft is not dead. Its Microserfs have been busy on the sidelines while letting Apple dominate the electronics market for more than decade, even way past Steve Jobs' demise.
Now Microsoft, the sleeping giant is in the running again. Microsoft, being the closest giant that can go head-to-head with Apple in terms of computing and electronics have moved into the game by introducing “Surface”, Microsoft’s tablet to compete with iPad. So is it even charming and visually alluring as an iPad? Or just like anything from Microsoft of yore, does it still look a bit evil? Windows and Macintosh OS, iOS and Windows for phones- new mobile rivals to the end. The Microsoft ‘Surface’ Tablet PC is 9.3 millimeter thick, weighs around 1.5 pounds and runs on Windows RT operating system. The debut version is expected on fall 2012 to coincide with the release of Windows 8.

Would You Strum This gTar?

Strum away feisty fingers because Incident’s now-famous gTar, which was launched both on the Disrupt Battlefield stage and on Kickstarter, has made upwards of $120,000 on Kickstarter since its launch.
Kickstarter is a great place to launch a product. Remember the Pebble smart watch, which saw over $1 million in funding in its first 28 hours on the site, and surpassing $3 million well over a month before their stated goal?
The gTar by Incident makes the steep learning curve of this popular musical instrument a bit easier and a lot of fun. The developer trumps that their new twist on guitar playing features only 3 stages of difficulty, rather than the much-frustrating traditional single difficult learning level. All thanks to the Apple iPhone and one smart app, this electronic guitar basically guide users through thr rhythms of a guitar. All that for $450 though!

Sony’s PlayStation Vita 3G

Heralding the arrival of the Sony’s PlayStation Vita 3G, the $300 Wi-Fi model takes the portable gaming experience up a notch. Here are a few of the essential points of the PlayStation Vita:
  •     Front and rear camera
  •     Motion sensors
  •     Built in GPS
  •     3G connectivity with data plan
  •     Five-inch touch screen
  •     Rear touch panel
  •     Dual joysticks on both ends
The PlayStation Vita has everything you need such as input devices and flexible controls. Fantastic games for diehards is definitely promising and in the future of the Vita 3G.

The retail price though is outright higher than their brand rivals such as the Nintendo 3DS. The 3DS comes in at $170, but goes without the 3G connectivity and less graphical juice where the PlayStation Vita is king when it comes to "per pixel" power. Though one could manage decent gaming with an iPhone, its nothing compared to the fun with the PlayStation Vita 3G. Sony also offers the PlayStation Vita in a model without 3G connectivity for $250, which is a great move to show some gamer love, but still much more pricey than the market competition.

Mobile Commerce: Paying with your Smartphone

I use my iPhone a lot, a good amount of time browsing and shopping online. I have yet to try square and other mobile payment schemes mainly because I have this paranoia with credit card scams in general. What's stopping hackers into getting on my iPhone and shopping away? And gosh, the idea of my iPhone getting stolen and being used around the place just freaks me out.

The big tech developers are not giving it enough attention though M-commerce is obviously on the rise, consumers today not only love to purchase via their portable phones, they don't leave home without and rely on their mobile for just about everything. There’s space enough for a big improvement when it comes to the mobile shopping experience – consumers definitely want a streamlined and less buggy payment processes. The by-line is they want their credit lines safeSo what's the appeal of paying through let's say with your iPhone at a retail location? Its just handy! A new mobile payment solution would benefit large merchants such as Wal-mart, Costco, Bendels and Target. Though I like the idea of mobile shopping in general, I don't feel yet the technology for mobile commerce has a safety net for consumers. So for now I'm sticking with plastic and paper for my shopping convenience.
